But what if you could overclock a monitor? What if you could make it display better and faster than it ever has before? Well, you can.

Overclocking has become a widely used term in the gaming world and the term is now starting to pop up in the business and IT world as well. Overclocking helps to get more from a device as it allows you to tap into the full potential of a device. Today overclocking is applied to many devices, including monitors.

This blog will look at how you can overclock a monitor and what the benefits are.

What Is Overclocking?

Overclocking means increasing the speed of your monitor. If you want to overclock your monitor then you need to know that overclocking is a process that is not allowed by the manufacturer.

Overclocking a monitor is a technique to increase the speed of a monitor and it is also used to increase the battery life of the monitor. The process of overclocking a monitor is not illegal and is only done by the users. It is necessary to note that when you overclock a monitor, the monitor can burn or can even melt. If you overclock the monitor then you need to check it frequently.

What Is The Refresh Rate?

Refresh rate is the speed of your screen when it is refreshing. It is the number of times per second a monitor refreshes. In simple words, refresh rate is the number of times the monitor refreshes the image displayed on the screen.

It is one of the most important parameters that you should check before buying a new computer. In order to increase your refresh rate, you need to check your monitor’s refresh rate.

There are two different types of refresh rates.

Static Refresh Rate

This is the number of times a display screen refreshes the picture. This type of refresh rate is measured in Hertz (Hz). Static refresh rate is the number of times a screen refreshes in one second.

Dynamic Refresh Rate

This is the number of times a screen refreshes the image per second. Dynamic refresh rate is measured in milliseconds (ms). This type of refresh rate is the most important and most used. This type of refresh rate is used in monitors and televisions. It is the standard and most commonly used refresh rate.

How Can You Overclock A Monitor?

Using Nvidia

First, you need to go to the Nvidia Control Panel. This can be accessed by right-clicking on your desktop. Once this window has popped up, scroll down into the bottom left-hand corner until you see the phrase “Change Resolution” and select this box.

Next, go to “Enable Resolutions Not Exposed by the Display” and click “Create Custom Resolution”. Keep the rest of the settings the same, and change the refresh rate. Choose a number between 5 and 15 Hz (Also known as hertz), with one being the slowest, and 15 the fastest.

It’s best to start on the lower end and work your way up if possible. This will enable you to find a good balance between comfortableness, clarity, and nausea prevention without any issues!

Using AMD

AMD cards need to be calibrated using the Radeon Settings panel. Navigate using your mouse or keyboard arrow keys to “Edit Display” > “Virtual Surround” > “Create Custom Resolution“. Next, select a resolution and refresh rate using your keyboard arrow keys, then press enter again to edit the custom resolutions you’ve created.

You may need to add options for 30 Hz or 60 Hz in order for it to work on a TV. After creating these custom resolutions, you can begin testing which ones work best for your system by selecting one of them and testing it out on your TV screen under different refresh rates. Begin with 60 Hz, then try 50 Hz, etc. Until you find an acceptable refresh rate that works well with either 30 Hz or 60 Hz modes.
