Photoshop users report several issues in Windows 10 related to Photoshop’s physical memory usage and management.

Indeed, it seems that many of them are getting a variation of the Photoshop error Not enough RAM memory in different cases.

This happens at startup and sometimes when opening tools. Once it appears, it prevents any operation in Windows 10.

Anyway, if you are stuck with this Photoshop error, follow the steps below to fix it.

Why does Photoshop have no memory?

1. Using RAM optimization software

All the memory on your computer is shared by Windows and all other running programs.

Applications running in the background that you do not interact with also consume RAM.

If too many programs are running or some have problems, there is not enough memory for Adobe Photoshop. To optimize memory usage, we recommend you use the tool below.

The software offers two solutions for this. One is an automatic tool called RAMJet that empties RAM memory exactly when it is almost empty.

The other tool is called Memory Mechanic and is used to perform deep defragmentation to improve performance.

RAMJet is exactly what we need in this situation, so that Photoshop will not complain about the lack of memory in the future.

2. Increase in allowed memory usage

  1. Open Photoshop.
  2. Open Edit, click on Preferences, then go to Performance.

  1. Use the slider to set the value to 100% of the RAM.
  2. Confirm the changes.
  3. If you cannot assign 100% to the Memory Usage parameter, set it to 96% and try again.

3. Disable background applications

  1. In the Windows search box, type msconfig and open System Configuration.
  2. On the Services tab, select the Hide all Microsoft services check box.
  3. Click Disconnect All to disable all active third-party services.

  1. Confirm the changes and try running Photoshop again.

4. Modification of a register entry

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run command line.
  2. Type Regedit at the command prompt and press Enter.
  3. Go to ComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareAdobePhotoshop90.0. Part 90.0. means that the version of Photoshop in this example is Photoshop CC 2015. Values vary depending on the version.

  1. Right-click in the empty area of the right pane, select New and select DWORD Value (32-bit).
  2. Name the newly created DWORD OverridePhysicalMemoryMB and give it a value of 2400. Make sure you choose a hexadecimal value, not a decimal value.
  3. Save the changes, launch Photoshop and see if there are any improvements.

5. Reinstalling Photoshop

  1. Find and open the Control Panel from the Start menu.

  1. Select Uninstall a program.
  2. Photoshop delete.
  3. On the system partition, go to Programs and delete the remaining folder.
